Rented Nikon Z9 Progress Report

On Monday in the late morning, I received the Nikon Z9 camera I had ordered for a week’s rental. I will be evaluating it as a potential future replacement for my existing Nikon D610 camera. I spent the rest of the day familiarizing myself with the camera and using videos on YouTube to help me set it up for the type of photography I had planned to do this week.

The Little Boy And The Big Fish

For a five-year-old sharecropper’s son, every season is like a new life. The passage of time does not seem to register. All I knew was that the weather started warming up and Daddy started plowing the fields and planting the cotton. The bare-limbed trees in the forest that surrounded our house began to turn green. The grass in the front yard started growing again. Soon Daddy would be out there on Saturday mornings with a sling blade, mumbling words I was not supposed to repeat. The tall weeds and bushes on the side of the house, out past the clothesline, sometimes produced baby bunnies that would sleepily sun themselves, just this side of the tall weeds … until I tried to run and catch one.

The Egret And The Heron

As I think back over my life, some of my favorite memories are things that I observed or experienced for the first time. At 72 years of age, one might think that new experiences would be rare. And I suppose they are, making them feel precious, if only for me. The wonders of the world are not mine to see in person. Nonetheless, my limited domain of exploration fulfills me. It is my little world. Like everyone else, my view of the world is based upon my experience in it.
