I Preordered a New Camera

If you follow my posts on Gab.com, you know I’ve been considering a new camera for quite a long time, to upgrade from my Nikon D610 DSLR. Initially, I thought I might buy a Nikon Z9, although it was quite expensive. When the rumors started about the Z8, I decided to hold off my decision a while. That prove to be a good idea.

On May 10, the Nikon Z8 was officially announced, and for most things important to me and my use case, it has the capabilities of a Z9 (an incredible camera), but costs around $1500 less. Plus, it’s quite a bit lighter. My old back will be able to appreciate that.

Will Patience Pay Off?

As I write this I am waiting for the delivery of a rental lens - Nikon 80-400 mm lens - and a 1.4 teleconverter; both are the most recent versions of those items.

I’m sort of caught between a rock and a hard decision. My long-term plan has been to replace my aging Nikon D610 at some point. I’ve been saving money for several years toward that goal.

Rented Nikon Z9 Progress Report

On Monday in the late morning, I received the Nikon Z9 camera I had ordered for a week’s rental. I will be evaluating it as a potential future replacement for my existing Nikon D610 camera. I spent the rest of the day familiarizing myself with the camera and using videos on YouTube to help me set it up for the type of photography I had planned to do this week.

A Disappointing Trip to Bald Rock Heritage Preserve

It's the chance you take. Sometimes a trip to a park location, much farther than you would like to normally drive, proves to be unproductive. That's what happened to me on March 14 of this year.

I had high hopes. I planned to go to Bald Rock Heritage Preserve, take photos of the sunrise, then go to Table Rock State Park, renew my yearly park pass, and take some photos there.

It wasn't meant to be.
